— Dining & Tea —
Grown Here. Cooked Here.
Savoured Here.
Every meal at Ceylon Heights tells the story of this land and its seasons. Kumari's table is the heart of the house.
Twelve Guests. One Long Table.
The dining room at Ceylon Heights is the heart of the house. A single long table of polished teak, laid each evening for all guests, encourages the kind of conversation that only happens when a shared meal is involved. Meals are served at set times — but the pace is yours.
Our cook Kumari has been feeding guests at Ceylon Heights for over a decade. Her menu changes daily based on what arrives from the estate garden, the Nuwara Eliya market, and the rhythm of the seasons. Expect Sri Lankan classics alongside lighter dishes — always honest, always made from scratch, always abundant.
Three Moments at the Table.
Breakfast · 7:30–9:30am
Estate eggs, fresh fruit from the garden, hoppers or string hoppers, toast with homemade jam, fresh coconut roti, and unlimited Ceylon tea from the estate. The most important meal — served at the pace of highland mornings.
Afternoon Tea · 3:30pm
A proper ceremonial affair. Estate-grown tea paired with homemade scones, finger sandwiches, love cake, and Ceylon biscuits. The colonial tradition Ceylon Heights upholds most proudly. Served on the verandah when weather allows.
Dinner · 7:30pm
A 4-course set dinner each evening. Always includes a Sri Lankan main, a Western alternative, house-baked bread, and a dessert drawing from local tropical fruits. BYOB — the estate provides complimentary tea and fresh juices.
From the Garden to the Plate.
Behind the bungalow, a working kitchen garden produces a year-round supply of herbs, vegetables, salad leaves, and tropical fruits. Lemongrass, curry leaf, pandan, turmeric, and chilli grow alongside English leeks, carrots, and courgettes — a garden that reflects the estate's Anglo-Sinhalese identity.
What the garden doesn't supply, the Nuwara Eliya market does — early every morning, Kumari or a family member visits to select the day's produce personally.
We Cook for You, Not for the Menu.
Vegetarian & Vegan
Sri Lankan cuisine is naturally vegetable-forward. A fully vegetarian or vegan table is no challenge for Kumari — it is, in many ways, where she is most at home.
Gluten-Free
Much of Sri Lankan food — rice, dhal, curries, pol sambol — is naturally gluten-free. We adapt the rest. Please mention when booking.
Allergies
Tree nuts (particularly coconut) are central to Sri Lankan cooking. For nut allergies, we need to know in advance. All other allergies accommodated.
Children
Kumari's kitchen adapts for little guests. Milder curries, egg hoppers, plain rice — she has been feeding estate children for decades and loves it.
Please mention dietary requirements when you enquire. We cannot always guarantee the full menu can be adapted without advance notice, but with notice — nothing is a problem.
Dinner Requires Advance Booking.
